Hello

My name is Dean. I currently study product design engineering at Glasgow School of Art. While many believe this course fueled my love for design I would have to say, they are wrong. Design has been around me forever. It is everywhere and encompasses all! From my dad's beautiful 1995 Mercedes SL to my newfound love for sneaker design, they have all influenced me.

The three beautiful pictures above show you some of the things I believe have had an impact on me. Travel, University and sport (specifically shinty). I also believe, in some weird way, they make me a better designer. Travelling through different countries I have been able to see what different cultures consider "good design". While playing shinty I hear all sorts of complains about sports equipment. "These shoes are killing me!", "These gloves don't have enough grip!" and the inevitable, "This top doesn't fit!". These coments give me a better idea of what other people consider, "good design". University life has allowed me to interact with students who have the same passion for design. This has allowed me to take on a wide range of design opinions and I regularly use these to develop my own sense of "good design".

Well, that is me. Travel, university and sport. What a great list. I doubt that Da Vinci or Plato would use those three categories to describe themselves. However, I truly believe that these things have impacted me in a way not many others have in my life so far. They have broadened my horizons and therefore allow me to design for a wider range of subjects. That can't be a bad thing?
